John Bentley Rawdon, 90, from Metairie, LA, passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday November 15, 2023. John was born on January 28, 1933 to Hubert and Lillie Rawdon in Mansfield Texas. He was married to Dottie Rawdon for almost 70 years.
John graduated from Grapevine High School in 1950 and immediately enlisted in the army. He served in the army during the Korean war until 1954, when he left having attained sergeant rank in a short time.
John worked at American Cyanamid (Cytec) for 40 years where he retired as a supervisor.
As a deacon, then elder in the church, he influenced many to follow Christ. He also inspired many young men to become ministers, including his grandsons and son in-law. He loved serving his family and Hickory Knoll Church of Christ family in any way. People knew all they had to do was call. He also enjoyed fishing and spent some very enjoyable moments with his fishing buddies.
John was best remembered as being an incredibly amazing man of God, who reflected his love of God and Christ in his love of family, in his strength and his faithfulness. He was a sweet, loving and kind servant. We were lucky to love him and be loved by him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Hubert, his sister Betty and by his daughter Amy.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dottie, his two daughters Melanie (Dean), Katharine (Jose Luis), his grandchildren Joshua (Alisha), Amanda (Trent), D.J. (Lakin), Megan, Nicholas (Victoria), John (Sabrina) and Kevin, and his eight great grandchildren.
