AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Lavern Effie Hornsby

1 août 1926 – 18 juillet 2021
Avis de décès de Lavern Effie Hornsby
AUX SOINS DE

Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home

Effie Lavern Carmack Hornsby was born August 1, 1926 in Comanche County, Texas. Lavern was the 10th of 11 children of William Lee Carmack and was the 6th child of his second wife, Effie Jane Davis Carmack. She was a proud graduate of Sidney High School and was known to have altered her high school basketball uniform to be a little more "stylish." Lavern would have been 95 on her next birthday. She passed away peacefully in her sleep July 18, 2021 in Kenner, LA.

On 5 February, 1944 she married Belon C. Hornsby in De Leon, Texas. Belon preceded her in death in December 1985. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Manual, Herman, and Stanley and sisters, Bonnie, Hazel, and Eulene.

Survivors include two sons: Belon "Max" and wife Teresa of Wichita Falls, TX, Roger Dale of Kenner, LA, and daughter, Janis Lavern Hornsby of Kenner, LA. Also surviving is one grandson, Joshua Max Hornsby and wife Becky of Tomball, TX and two great-grandchildren, Jace Isaac and Jacqueline Nicole, also of Tomball, TX. Other survivors include sister Neta Jean Carmack Reese and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lavern never met a stranger. She loved to dance and sing--and no audience was too small or too big for her. She was full of life, energy and laughter. She could never pass a piano without stopping to play a little bit of "Elmer's Tune," sometimes to the embarrassment of those with her. She was known to those closest to her as "Minnie," a name she gladly accepted from her grandson Josh and his inability to say Grammy. "Minnie" loved her fried eggs, sausage or bacon for breakfast--and no breakfast was complete without fresh tomatoes (an item she carried in her purse if she ate at a restaurant, just in case). The past few years she worked doing food demos at Costco, a job she loved and looked forward to because she could meet new people. She was unapologetically herself, always, and lived life on her terms. She will be missed by all who loved her.
