Lorraine Sanders Ruiz

Lorraine Sanders Ruiz, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Ruiz was a native of New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Harahan, La for 52 years. Beloved wife of Gerald T. Ruiz for 56 years. Mother of Maureen Scott (husband, Lewis) and Daniel Ruiz (wife, Cheryl). Grandmother of Christopher Schneller, Beau Scott, Brittany Ruiz and Amanda Ruiz. Great grandmother of Shane and Liam Scott. Daughter of the late Joseph J. Sanders and Catherine Standige Sanders. Sister of Leah Oestringer, Linda D’Aquila and the late Karl Sanders. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and her grand dog, Teddy. Mrs. Ruiz was a former teacher at St. Henry’s, was a parishioner of St. Rita Church, was the founding member of the Fun Seekers, was a member of the Silver Trotters and East Jefferson Wellness Center. Mrs. Ruiz was larger than life. She had a wonderful, devilish sense of humor, was quick witted and was quite a prankster. No one ever left her house hungry, she made sure everyone was well fed. Mrs. Ruiz had a very passionate prayer life. She ADORED her grandchildren and was fiercely loyal and loving to her family. She was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013 beginning at 9:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel. Interment will be at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul, c/o St. Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan, LA 70123.
