

Marjorie Blanche (Pigman) Burgbacher passed away on September 5, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 70 years John Burgbacher, sister Darlene Larson, children Linda LeRay (Steve), David Burgbacher (Thea), and Patricia Fowler (William), grandchildren Russell (Carrie), John (Liz), Adam (Honey), Stephanie (Rocky), and Andy, great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Lucas, John E., and Max. She was preceded in death by her sister Beulah Gabriel and her parents Clinton and Cordelia (Flewelling) Pigman. Marjorie was born in Worthington, Mn on February 18, 1920. She graduated from Benson High School and Minneapolis Business College and then was employed for several years by Archer Daniels Midland. Marjorie met her future husband, John, while he was training in the Army Air Corp Meteorology Program at the University of Minnesota. Mrs. Burgbacher was actively involved in Girl Scouting serving both as unit leader and on the New Orleans Area Council. When her last child left for college, Marjorie began taking art lessons and in the subsequent years developed into an accomplished artist. She took a special interest in the many plantations in Louisiana which became the subject of most of her oil paintings. Many of these pieces of art now grace homes throughout the United States. She was a member of the Metairie, New Orleans, and Le Petit Art Guilds. One of Marjorie's hobbies was traveling overseas with her husband including both Europe and the Far East. She was a long time member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, AARP Chapter 4924, DAR Metairie Ridge Chapter, and Les Jardiners DeBissonet Garden Club. Services will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1001 West Esplanade Avenue, Kenner on Saturday morning, September 10, 2016 at 10:00. Viewing will be held at Leitz-Eagan, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. A private burial will be held in Metairie Cemetery following the service.
