

Mary “María” Duque Fuller, 98 years of age, passed away on August 9, 2016, as the result of a cervical neck fracture she sustained from a fall. Mary was born on August 2, 1918 in the town of Socorro, Department of Norte de Santander in the country of Colombia. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elisa (née Gomez) Duque and José Duque and her loving husband of 48 years, Richard W. Fuller. Mary and Richard met in the Panama Canal Zone, fell in love and married in 1950. Prior to marrying Richard, she worked as the assistant to the Colombian Ambassador to Panama. Mary cherished her time in Panama with Richard. Upon his retirement from the position of Chief Payroll Systems Officer for the Panama Canal Zone, Mary and Richard settled in New Orleans, a city with which she often said she fell in love at first sight. Mary was an elegant, intelligent and talented woman who always was willing and able to give wise counsel to those who sought her guidance. She was well rounded and had a quick wit. Her knitting, crochet and cooking skills were rarely surpassed. She had a deep love and respect for nature and the environment. Above all, she was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and often advised those in distress to seek His Holy Counsel. She is survived and deeply missed by her nephew, William LeBrun and his wife, Aurora, their children and her dear friends, María Julianna Auzenne and Geneva “Jennie” G. Flowers. All who cherished Mary are invited to her visitation, which will take place at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church - 1230 South Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70118 beginning on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Herbert J. Kiff, Jr. and Reverand Luis E. Henao. Interment will follow at St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum. Arrangements by Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, Louisiana.
