Milton Francis “Pat” Meyers passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1937, in New Orleans. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Clovina Buckley Meyers, and their three children: Patrick M. Meyers (Darlene), Jeffrey A. Meyers and Lori Meyers Frischhertz (Kevin).
While his Irish eyes and St. Patrick’s Day birthdate earned him nicknames like Patty, Pat, and Patty Boy, later in life, one of his favorite names to be called was “Paw Paw.” Pat adored his grandchildren – Angelle Meyers Jones (Kevin), Patrick “Bub” Meyers II (Molly), Chantelle Meyers Wilson (Walt), Ashleigh, Emily and Matthew; and his great grandchildren - Aubrey, Caroline, Andrew, Caley, Carlie, Evelyn and Vivian. He was also admired and loved by his two sisters, Margaret M. Bordelon and JoAnn M. Power and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Nicholas Meyers and Josephine “Josie” Rizzuto Meyers as well as his brothers, Stuart N. Meyers and John E. Meyers.
Pat grew up in the Irish Channel and had a great love for the sport of baseball, becoming a favorite on the diamond at Annunciation Playground. After graduating from Redemptorist High School, he immediately began working for Jax Brewery as Office Boy. In short order, he headed the “Office Boys Group,” advanced to Junior Clerk, Accounting and eventually Traffic Manager. His love for work and sport continued as he participated in the Jax sponsored Commercial Athletic Association Baseball League – racking up an impressive batting average of .300 and hustling in the outfield. Pat was the last employee at Jax Brewery when it closed in 1974.
Inspired by the American dream, Pat and his wife, Clovina, started a company of their own after the brewery closed - Meyers Warehouse, which included one employee other than themselves. Their family business grew over the years to include several warehousing locations and expanded into a robust trucking operation. Today, Meyers Warehouse and Trucking employs over 125 people, many of whom are family and friends, and operates in three states. He was so proud of the life he and his wife built for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
An avid sports fan, he loved watching baseball and football at every level, but his favorite team to cheer for was any team that included a family member on its roster. He was their biggest fan and a boisterous one at that. He was legendary on the dance floor especially when the 50’s music played and Clovina was in his arms. Pat was an animal lover - from his horses, chickens and zebra at the Meyers Ranch to all his pups and grandpups throughout life. However, his most cherished four-legged companion was Gracie Girl, who was at his side until the end. He spent many years hanging with friends and family and fishing and hunting at his camp in Mrytle Grove. Pat loved his neighbors throughout life from Annunciation to Cumberland Street – friends were always considered family. He never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. He loved a good cup of coffee no matter the time of day, a hot dog no matter the sporting event and a cold Miller Pony no matter the occasion. He was a parishioner of both St. Ann and Our Lady of Divine Providence parishes.
Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral services on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church, 8617 West Metairie Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Mass will immediately follow. Interment will be at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana.
