Orient Babin Sciortino passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the age of 90. Orient was born in New Orleans in 1935 and was a parishioner of St. Louis King of France Church Parish. She was known for her caring nature, kind heart, and generous spirit, often making personal sacrifices in order to give to others.
In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling and dancing. She often bragged about being a member of the New Orleans Sugarettes and dancing on the field in the halftime show of the Sugar Bowl Classic in 1956. Orient was a beautician for many years and eventually lightened her client list to become a full-time caretaker of her husband for many years before his passing. She enjoyed crocheting beautiful items in her spare time for everyone she knew as well as volunteering at her daughters' school and with their Girl Scout troops.
Orient was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur "Skeets" Sciortino; her parents, Frank and Ethelyn Babin; and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Monique Grasso (Mike) and Melynda Foret (Brandon). Beloved "Maw Maw" to Blake, Bryce, Baylee, Brynna, and Breck Foret as well as Cassie and Brittany Babin. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express its sincerest gratitude to Ms. Tammi Webb, her home caregiver, who provided amazing care and companionship, and to Mr. Lawrence Breaux, her caring and devoted driver, who ensured that she was transported safely daily. Special thanks to her PACE family who embraced her, provided daily entertainment, and kept her smiling. "Ms. O" was honored to be chosen as a maid in their Mardi Gras ball last year and earned a Proclamation from the City of New Orleans in her name.
A graveside service will be held at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 10:00am.
