Maw Maw Pat used to take care of me when I was little when my mom & Dad worked.
I remember how I gave her grief! One time they "lost" me and they searched & called for me until paw paw found me hiding under their house.  I can't remember why I wouldn't respond! 
Then I called the emergency number 911 three times! By the third time Maw Maw gave me a whipping. 
Other things that I remember are playing & falling asleep in their old van and I remember eating in the living room with maw maw.  Paw paw Roy would cook and bring it in to us on trays. I rmember riding int he car and van with maw maw & paw paw. Everywhere they would go they would bring their dogs too.
Maw Maw was always encouraging & supportive.  She allowed my to take things apart and put them back like radios and old telephones. She once had me bondo her old van & even though it looked like poo she always said it was great.
She was there for me during tough times when I needed help.  I love my Maw Maw Pat forever and I know she is a better place.

Remembering back when Kimberly & I were young, there's alot to be said from then to now about a fine lady, Mrs. Pat Scioneaux.  
    Kim's mom, Mrs. Pat (as I called her) had a car. Not just any car - it was a Rambler or Mrs. Pat's Rambler and she took her kids & her mother everywhere in it.  She was always "doing" for her mother and kids.
    Kim and I sometimes talk about a time long ago when her mom and dad took us for a ride looking for bricks.  Not just any bricks It had to be "old bricks".  
   Mrs. Pat loved collecting old bricks to be used for a walk-way at their home.
Even to this day - I look back on how I enjoyed that "little trip" collecting bricks but mostly  - the harmony or togetherness of their family.
    As time went on- the responsibility Mrs. Pat took in making sure her children had a good education must have been hard for her to endure.  Even after that - her own continuing education led her to become and years later, retire with a career as an LPN.
    There's a certain kind of woman that holds the determination of keeping a good family together.  And this lady, Mrs. Pat, is "that one". 
    I'm Kim Held and fortunate to be a small part of their united family.  But more over, proud to be the husband to her loving daughter, Kimberly.

The Story of Patsy and Me

 First of all my mother, Ruby Highstreet, and Patsy’s mom, Roberta Shumaker, grew up as very good friends, then I came along & Patsy not long after me.  My birthday is June 23, 1933, and Patsy’s was December 13, 1933.  We became good friends and went to W.C. Flowers elementary school together.  We both lived on Jeanette Street in Carrollton. 
 After school we would walk to my grandma’s on Willow Street  and she would have cookies and Jumbo drink for us. Jumbo drink was in a tall bottle enough for 6-8 people.  Then Patsy and I would go down to the street to play with another girl named Marilyn Strada whose parents owned the corner store.  We would play with dolls and toys in the side yard.  Before it got dark we would go back to grandma’s and Uncle Gene would drive Patsy back home in his Model T Ford car.
 Patsy and I did have our little fights. Our mailman neighbor, who lived in the middle of our block, would sometimes let us play his accordion.  Patsy and I argued about who would get to play it first.  Another time we got in a physical fight in the middle of the street and we were pulling each others hair! I can’t even remember what we were fighting about!
 On Saturday nights we would go to the Roxy Theatre that was located on Jeannette Street.  It was a picture show located  between Leonides and Monroe Streets.   It was shaped like a big barn with a stage in the front. It also had a balcony but it wasn’t a good idea to sit under it because people would drop stuff on you.
 But my parents moved to the Westbank and I got married at sixteen years old.  Patsy got married when she was nineteen.  We both had busy lives with our own families.  I’ll always love her and keep her memory in my heart forever.  Maybe one day we will meet again in Heaven.  Patsy and I were good friends.  May God Bless you Patsy until one day we shall meet again.

Kim and family,
 I feel like your mom was a part of my family. She was a unique person, so independent.  I really am glad I got to know her. 
 I know it was so hard for her when she broke her leg and was unable to drive.   I enjoyed visiting her in the "skilled nursing facility" She enjoyed getting the paper and her skittles so much. We talked about everyhing.
 Looking at the pictures, I see what a beautiful person she was . She never lost that magical smile. 
 Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you learn to live without her. As for your mom, I'm sure she is happy to be "HOME ", free of pain and worries . I think of her with a big smile on her face.

 Momma sewed my Barbie doll clothes, she made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls
Momma sewed my prom dresses

Momma could embroider
Momma taught me how to crewel stitch and
How to make French knots

Momma could draw
Momma drew babies and characterizations

Momma could create
Momma created my classroom ornaments from cardboard and aluminum foil
Momma created the sidewalk and alley path from bricks she collected from
 Camp Plauche and the lakefront

Momma was Vet-like
Momma helped  birth puppies and always gave a stray a home
Momma showed me what was inside of an egg that fell out of a nest
Momma could behead a chicken, and “detail” a dog

Momma was a hard worker
Momma was a mother, a housekeeper
Momma was a school cafeteria helper and a Singer Sewing Machine Store helper
Momma was a Licensed Practical Nurse

Momma was Wise
Momma said to have a career that you could always rely on to support you
Momma said always try something that you are afraid of because you will never know if you could succeed if you don’t try 

Momma was a Writer
Momma wrote Daddy while he was in the Marines before they were married
Momma wrote poetry and versed the poem used as her Eulogy

Momma loved her Family
Momma called Daddy her “Rock” because his love and support was steadfast
Momma loved her children - she loved babies and said she would have had more if Daddy would have let her

Momma was an Adventurer
Momma like to search for sea shells and explore hiking trails
Momma camped in a tent and cooked in a campfire

Momma ventured into the Unknown
Momma read about Edgar Cayce and the possibility of other life
Momma could see peoples auras and had a prophetic dream

Momma was Momma
And 
I am my Mother’s Daughter

I remember being so excited when I was little knowing that I was going to see you. I am only sad that I could not have visited more because of the distance between us. I know you loved me, you still do, and that you're in a better place now. 
You will be missed and never forgotten.

Crabbing trips, beaches, waveland, the camper, the blue van that still to this day will never die, trisha fay, climbing your magnolia tree, pecans, gumbo, talk radio streaming from your room, The song Total Eclipse of the Heart (which is still a favorite of mine), block parties, reading the national enquirer, and spotting UFO's........ You made me smile, laugh and love.  I will miss you.

You n dad brought me into this world now no one left with the right to take me out but the lord above. You gave me love uncondissionaly. Hope my life will measure up in the end. Love you mom.

  Maw Maw Pat, you are gone but not forgotten. Some of the best memories are left to carry on, so when I miss your face, I'll think of these & you won't be really gone. Now, you're reunited with Maw Maw Bert & Paw Paw Roy. So, I'll share the memories that will always bring me joy...
  I remember the best times, like Waveland & going crabbing. How you'd read the newspaper @ the beach and always kept us laughing.  Our visits to your house & the block parties you used to throw. Thinking of these times, makes me miss them so. Your memory will live on in our hearts & minds. So I'll sit right here and think of all of those good times. May you Rest In Peace.

Momma was always driving us somewhere--put miles on the little green Rambler!
She got me interested in painting--not just art but walls, doors, furniture, etc
She pushed me into Nursing--told me I would always have a job to help my family.
She and I had the same toes and little fingers.
She gave me green eyes.
She got me into trash pick-n--found old bricks and made the front walk
She could sew--never had many store bought dresses.
She was an assistant Girl Scout leader.
She got me interested in gardening--always had daisy blooms in the gardens.
She let me read any novel I pleased without censure.
She loved Waveland.
She was interested in nature--plants, birds, lizards!
She let me raise chickens.
She could be creative--she used an old claw foot tub for a goldfish pond.
She became less social as she grew older
She never gave me a spanking that I did not deserve
She threw the phone thru the window
She threw a brick at Daddy Roy
She loved her dogs and cats
She let us have any pet we wanted (birds, gerbils, mice)
She adopted a Monkey
She never ate any of the ducks she raised
She pierced my ears in the kitchen
She tried to teach me to drive
She enjoyed "Hayley Days"
She worried about Ronald
She missed Bert and Daddy
She chose "Kim" as a name for my sister (I made fun of her 1st choice-Giselle)
She never forgot the tragic death of her Uncle Ronald Nungesser
She introduced me to stuffed artichokes-and taught me to make them
Just a few thoughts--so many more

Aunt Patsy I did not know you well. You are now with Uncle Roy and I hope you are happy. I am praying for you. I am also praying for my cousins, Patty Sue, Kim and Ronnie, and their families. I love you and wish you have the strength to get through this.

Ronnie and family, This is Todd and Kim Robertson's Mom, Marilyn. So Sorry to hear of your Mom's death. I did not know her very well but she raised some wonderful kids. Todd and Ronnie were always together. Todd has so many fond memories of your Dad. Sorry I could not come to the funeral as I just had some surgery 3 wks ago and I'm still recouperating.
