

Philip Joseph DiSalvo, Sr., passed away peacefully Sunday September 12, 2010. He died at age 86 after a long, active and wonderful life surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Caputa DiSalvo of Harahan; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Philip Joseph DiSalvo, Jr., and Cathy Eble DiSalvo of Harahan; a daughter, Beverly DiSalvo Giammalva of Kenner; four grandchildren, Gina Giammalva Bellott (husband Timmothy Charles Bellott) of River Ridge; Jason Philip DiSalvo of Denver, Colorado.; Loren DiSalvo Monahan (husband Michael Brian Monahan) of Metairie; Nicholas Joseph DiSalvo of New Orleans, and three great-grandchildren, William Bellott, and Brady and Finn Monahan. He is also is survived by two sisters: Mary DiSalvo Licciardi and Rita DiSalvo (Adolph) Heuer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis J. and Elizabeth (Garvey) DiSalvo; three brothers, Thomas Sr., Louis Jr., and Joseph Sr. DiSalvo; a sister, Patricia DiSalvo and a son-in-law, Joseph Giammalva, Jr. He was born and raised in the Irish Channel of New Orleans and graduated from Warren Easton High School. After serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, he worked in restaurant management for 35 years. He was a proud member the Greater New Orleans Italian-American Cultural Society for many years holding several offices, including President and board member. In 2002 he was a co-recipient of the Cristoforo Colombo Award. He was an avid golfer, a long-time member of the Colonial Country Club in Harahan and an annual participant in the Senior Olympics. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie on Friday, September 17, 11:00 AM. Visitation from 9:00 A.M. until time of service. Internment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to your favorite charity in Philip’s name.
