She was born in Gibson, LA to Prosper and Wilma Toups and raised at Greenwood in Gibson and Southdown in Houma.
Priscilla received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Nicholls State University in 1958. She was in the first graduating class to be awarded bachelor’s degrees.
Her first teaching position was in Bayou Black. She also taught at St. Francis Cabrini in New Orleans, but most of her 40+ year teaching career was spent at St. Angela Merici. She taught 3rd and 4th grade and then computer science, but she was then able to spend time teaching her favorite subject P.E. and coached many sports. For decades, she organized the school's Field Day held at Metairie (Pontiff) Playground. Her final years at St. Angela were spent in the library as librarian where she imparted her love of reading to the students.
Priscilla was a founding parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church.
She was also a proud member of the Royal Court of Metairie, even reigning as queen for a year. She was a key participant in organizing neighborhood events such as the annual Easter egg hunts, kite-flying contests, the annual 4th of July picnics, the annual hikes/picnics to West End, and the huge bicentennial celebration of 1976.
While she was still physically active, she enjoyed playing tennis and looked forward each week to TNT – Thursday Night Tennis.
She was well known for her 'freezies' which were enjoyed by the neighborhood kids and adults. Her specialties included chocolate and several 'triple flavor' rainbow variations.
With great patriotic pride, she served as Commissioner-in-Charge of Jefferson Parish Precinct 30 and opened her garage for her neighbors to vote in local, state, and federal elections for 37 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Eddie, her parents Prosper and Wilma Toups, her grandson Nathan Trepagnier, and her siblings Diana Durham, Nanette Schmitt, Adonis Toups, and Esther Toups.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Rosemary Trepagnier (Will), Barbara Heard (Allen), Deacon Robert Pendzimaz (Pam) and Elizabeth Dichiara (Paul); and by her grandchildren Walt Trepagnier (Janice), Adam and Abby Dichiara, Jack and Ben Heard; and by her great-grandchildren Juliette, Will, and Nathan.
She is also survived by her siblings and/or their spouses Prosper and Beverly Toups, Mike Schmitt, Fay Toups, Alcide Toups, and Peter and Denise Toups.
