Robert Lawrence Connolly Sr.

Robert Lawrence Connolly, age 87, died peacefully in his home of natural causes on June 21, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents John J. Connolly and Alma Murphy Connolly; his sisters Stella Connolly, Alma Claire Connolly Wise, and Kathryn Connolly Laroque; his brothers John F. Connolly, Joseph S. Connolly, and Vernon Patrick Connolly; and his son James Patrick Connolly. He is survived by his children Mary Connolly (John) Leighton and Robert L. Connolly, Jr.; his grandchildren Janet Leighton, John Michael Leighton, and Owen Connolly; his nieces Patty Connolly (James) Arnold, Kathleen Connolly (Bill) Brown, Bradley (Lance) Walthall, and Debbie Roy; his nephews Jack (Pam) Connolly and Terry (Mary) Wise; and his extended multi-generational family and many friends. Surrounded by the love of family throughout his life, he was the youngest of seven children. Truly valuing family, he passed the love for family to his children. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, he graduated Jesuit High School in 1949 and Tulane University in 1954. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an accountant for the American Can Company and Schwegmann’s Supermarkets. A New Orleanian through and through, he enjoyed the food, music, and culture of his city and the time he spent with family and friends upon his retirement. He deeply cherished the life-long friendships he developed at Jesuit High School. Post Hurricane Katrina, he relocated to Arlington, Virginia, to be closer to his children and where he developed friendships with people from across the globe. The family would like to thank the loving staff of Culpepper Garden in Arlington, Virginia, for the life they helped create for him and the care they provided to him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at LEITZ-EAGAN Metairie, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, on Saturday morning, July 8, 2017 at 11:00.
