Robert "Pops" Freeman Hickey, Jr., age 68, of Destrehan, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Friday, December 24, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Robert F. Hickey, Sr., and Doris Oriol Hickey. He is survived by his favorite (and only) daughter, Leslie H. Brown; grand-dudes, Brandon P. and Bradley T. Brown, brother; William "Cy" Hickey II, and common law "adopted son", Mike Breaux.
A musician and handyman, he finally succumbed to Multiple Sclerosis after a courageous battle of 35 years where he largely lived independently. He was a successful sales representative for Hobart Corporation who covered the entire state of Louisiana until his retirement in 1995. His hobbies included going out to lunch with family and friends, telling stories about his younger days, and shooting at the gun range at the Shooters Club. His humor, kindness, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone he met. Pops will be dearly missed by all those who knew, loved, and tolerated him.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana from 9:00 am - 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the National MS Society.
