He kept them in his heart and missed them all greatly and loved to share his memories of them.
Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Linda McCary Heyl. When asked how long they were married his response was always "not long enough" and while 29 years were truly not long enough they were a true gift from God. Roy is also survived by his cherished son, Eric A Heyl and wife, Lisa Marie Fontenot Heyl, and granddaughters, Hannah Heyl Tizzard (Justin) and Hailey-Ann Heyl. He was very proud of them. His beloved step-children sons, Dane S. Boué (Nina Tramuta) grandson, Daniel Boué; Darin C. Boué (Maria Vidacovich-Boué) granddaughter, Sofia Boué; daughter, Yvette "Bugsy" Boué (fiancée Rolando Reyes, Jr). It gave him great joy to be called Daddy and Doondabeck. He is also survived by his brothers, Craig Heyl (Missy), Brian Heyl, Daryl Heyl (Nancy), sister-in-law, Charlene Heyl, brother-in-law, Robert McCary, Jr. (Charlotte) and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and their children. The family wishes to acknowledge many cherished and supportive extended family members and friends who comforted and prayed with Roy to the very end.
Roy served in the US Navy, Navy Reserve, and Seabees and was honorably discharged in 1978. We gratefully acknowledge the medical care provided thru the Veterans Administration. Roy was blessed with passions for music, baseball, and life in his beloved Lake Catherine community at his "camps". He was especially proud and grateful for his personal success as a knuckle ball pitcher (one perfect game) and coaching of many young men and their success at the 1991 Dizzy Dean World Series representing Kenner, LA. He took great joy in teaching and helping others sharing his knowledge and many varied skills.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 11AM - 1PM with a memorial service to begin at 1PM.
