Santiago "Sany" Gomez

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Santiago “Sany” Gomez who departed this life on January 30th, 2025, on his way to New Orleans, LA. The reason for his trip was to visit his ailing brother, Ernesto Gomez, who resides in Hammond, LA.

He was born in the country of Belize on July 26th, 1938, to Atilano and Petronila Gomez. For 51 years, he was married to Maria Gomez and they had four sons, Abel, Oscar, Victor & Nicholas. He also kept a close relationship with his first child, Jude, who resides in Boston, MA.

Sany acquired a master’s degree at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. He taught at various institutions here in New Orleans and in Belize.

Sany was always an astute businessman, forming his company, International Services Ltd. in 1996. This company grew into a very profitable entity that provided jobs to many Belizeans who eventually became like family to him.

Sany loved traveling, watching movies, enjoying good food and spending time with his six grandchildren. His work ethic and dedication to his family are traits that we all wish to encompass in our own lives. He had a warm, charismatic and friendly personality that left a standing impression on everyone whom he met. Sany, with all his achievements managed to still form close relationships with his sons, nephews and nieces.

Sany’s kindness, generosity and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy is one of integrity, resilience and love for others. He will be dearly missed
