Born on September 28, 1961 in New Orleans, Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Crosby Heaton, his father, John A. Heaton, Jr., his brother, Robert Edward Heaton and his sister-in-law Mary Weimer Heaton.
A lifelong Louisianian, Tim received his Bachelor of Arts in Business and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University. It was at SLU where he formed lifelong friendships as a member of Sigma Tau Gamma, Phi Chapter. He served terms as Sig Tau President, Vice President of Education (where he “taught people how to party”) and was especially proud to be honored by the Sig Tau Little Sisters with the elected title of “The Original Mr. Fun.” He spent summers in college working on the offshore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and at his beloved NFL Saints’ training camp. In his professional career, Tim held various senior positions at First NBC, Eagle Enterprises, Blastcoat Systems and was a member of the Bay Area Painters and Tapers Union. Throughout his career, and as a lover of nature, Tim visited all 50 United States, backpacking through many national parks. He enjoyed a mountain view, and ultimately climbed many challenging mountains, including Half Dome, Mt. Whitney, and Denali.
A true family man, Tim is survived by his siblings John Frederick Heaton, Sr. (Fran), Matthew Joseph Heaton, Dorothy Heaton Mattison (Craig) and Joy Heaton Martin (Mike). The highlight of his life was serving as the one-and-only “Uncle Timmy” to John Frederick Heaton, Jr. (Sylvia Szentpetery), Erika Marie Heaton (Barrett McDaniel), Anne Heaton Duhon (Paul), Robert Joseph Heaton, Richard Hunter Bates (Andi), William Houston Bates (Sarah), Ann Cheney Bates, Edward Heaton Mattison, Henry Heaton Mattison, Daniel Christopher Martin, Chase Heaton Mattison, Joseph Andrew Martin, Jacques Heaton Duhon, Marie Louise Duhon, Gray Heaton McDaniel, Camille Elizabeth Duhon, Sloane Octavie Heaton McDaniel, Gracie Rose Bates and Holt Stuart Bates. In the official and self-appointed role of godfather, Uncle Timmy aided in the serious upbringing and humorous corruption of his siblings’ offspring and took pride in the well-timed prank, off-color joke and his ever-present acerbic wit.
Tim was a unique individual of deep intellect, possessing an exquisite personal style. He was well-read on current events and a wide ranging assortment of historic and scientific topics. As a gifted conversationalist, he loved nothing more than to share this knowledge in great detail, often interspersed with demonstrations of his talent for satire and comedy. He loved nothing more than to make people laugh, which he did often. A faithful and caring friend, brother, and uncle, he will be sorely missed.
Arrangements are being handled by Leitz-Eagan, Metairie, where visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, July 18th with a Celebration of Life to follow at The Balcony Ballroom. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 19 at Leitz-Eagan followed by interment at Carrollton Cemetery No. 2.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Timothy Heaton Memorial Fund at Southeastern University, where a Sigma Tau Gamma scholarship has been established in his honor.
