

William “Rolland” Sturcken passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011, in Metairie, LA, at the age of 86. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marie Combel Sturcken of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving A. Sturcken and Lillian Artieta Sturcken; his brother, Irving J. Sturcken and his sister-in-law, Rosemary Rando Sturcken.

Grandfather of Michael Newton, Steven Claverie (Brittany), Christina N. Taix (Ray), Vickie C. LeNormand (Robbie), Cherie Claverie and Jonathan Sturcken. Great-grandfather of David Newton, Christopher Newton, Ray Michael Taix, Noah LeNormand and Jacob Taix. Uncle of Gale S. Raitman and Judy Sturcken.
He was a World War II veteran, part of the 969th Engineer Maintenance Company. He was also a VFW Post 6640 member in Metairie and a Pan Atlantic truck driver. After retiring from Singer Sewing Machine after 30 years of dedicated service, he became a self-employed sewing machine repairman for many schools in the area. A native New Orleanian, Rolland was also a resident of Slidell for 20 years, a resident of Ville Ste. Marie Independent Living for 5 years, and more recently at Serenity House in Metairie.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, masses would be gratefully appreciated.
