Adriano Antonio Alvarez, age 87, of Miami, Florida, passed away in his sleep of heart failure and went to heaven, Monday, September 12, 2022. His son was by his side. He was born in Cardenas, Cuba, the son of Adriano Alvarez and Eva Solis de Alvarez on April 30, 1935, and immigrated to the United States in 1963. He married to Maria del Carmen Alvarez, May 28, 1965, in Miami, FL, and had one son, Adrian Manuel Alvarez. Adriano was the last of three siblings including Eva Alvarez de Carballeira and Lourdes Alvarez de Acosta. He was a great husband, loving father, and friend to all. He was witty, caring, always helping others in need, loved to sing with his great voice, and had a wonderful sense of humor that brought sunshine and smiles to all. He was beloved by all.
During his life in Cuba, he graduated with his bachelor's degree from Universidad Catolica de Santo Tomas de Villanueva in Habana and played baseball there. He also attended Boston College for 2yrs. He loved playing baseball, spending time with his family, going to the beach, swimming, watching Almendares professional baseball games, and just getting into “trouble” with his nephews and nieces. He also performed on a Cuban national TV contest to serenade a girl he wanted to date…and won!
In 1966, Adriano moved to Chicago & Des Plaines, IL, area for 28yrs, where he enjoyed taking his son to see the Chicago Cubs. He was a professional accountant and licensed real-estate agent. He volunteered at St. Stephen’s Church in Des Plaines and was the Treasurer of a Chicago Latin Lions Club who raised money by hosting many dances and other events.
Adriano and Carmen retired and moved to Miami in 1994 to reunite with family and friends. They were very active in a Spanish Social Club – Santa Marta de Ortigueira, where he volunteered, danced, sang, and played dominos. He loved hosting family and friends who visited and had many dear friends. He was also very excited when the Florida Marlins started their franchise in 1993, attended games, and avidly watched on TV. It is then he betrayed his son and shifted his loyalty from the Cubs.
He is survived by his wife Maria del Carmen, son Adrian Manuel, daughter-in-law Sherri Alvarez, grandsons Samuel and Alejandro; sisters-in-law Araceli Lopez and Maria Penin Lopez; brother-in-law Emilio Lopez; nieces and nephews Maria Elena, Lourdes “China”, Ruben, Jesus “Chuchi”, Jorge, Rosario, Olga, Emilio, and Mary Carmen; cousins Teresita, Rosa Maria, Mari Rosa, extended family and friends.
