Agustin Hernandez

Agustín Hernández, querido hermano, tío y querido amigo, falleció a los 88 años en Miami, Florida. Nació en Juasimal, municipio de la provincia de Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, y creció en el batey de Herradura, donde fue conocido y querido por vecinos y amigos que lo acompañarían en su corazón toda la vida.

Agustín llevaba consigo el espíritu de su ciudad natal a dondequiera que iba. Tras llegar a Estados Unidos, se estableció en Sunnyside, Queens, Nueva York, convirtiéndose en una figura respetada y familiar en su comunidad. Durante más de 60 años, trabajó con dedicación y orgullo como gerente de banquetes en el Manhattan Hilton de la ciudad de Nueva York. Su sólida ética de trabajo, profesionalismo y confiabilidad le valieron la admiración de colegas y huéspedes.

Fue un hombre que valoraba la independencia y la firmeza en sus principios, pero a la vez era profundamente compasivo con quienes enfrentaban dificultades. Una de las mayores alegrías de Agustín fue regresar a Cuba para visitar a su familia, reencontrarse con viejos vecinos y recorrer las calles y senderos de su infancia en Herradura. Nunca olvidó sus raíces. Durante estas visitas, se propuso asistir a los velorios de sus compatriotas, ofreciendo discretamente ayuda financiera para que las familias pudieran cubrir los gastos funerarios y honrar a sus seres queridos con dignidad. Su generosidad hacia los más necesitados era constante y sincera.

Agustín formó parte de una familia fuerte y unida. Juntos, trabajaron incansablemente para ayudar a familiares y amigos de Cuba a lo que él siempre llamó "el mejor país del mundo", Estados Unidos. Su vida fue un testimonio de perseverancia, lealtad y devoción a la familia. Será recordado por su integridad, su generosidad, su profundo amor por su patria y su país adoptivo, y por las innumerables vidas que tocó con simples actos de bondad.

El legado de Agustín perdura en la familia a la que ayudó a levantar y en la comunidad que siempre lo recordará con cariño. Su querida familia, amigos y todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo lloran su pérdida. Que su recuerdo sea eterno y un consuelo para todos que lo conocieron.

La visitación para Agustín será este lunes, 23 de febrero de 2026, a partir de las 5:00 p. m., en la funeraria de Caballero Rivero Little Havana, situada en 3344 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135.

El entierro será el martes, 24 de febrero de 2026, a las 9:30 a. m., en el cementerio de Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North, situado en 3260 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135.

Obituary (English) – Agustín Hernández

Agustín Hernández, beloved brother, uncle, and cherished friend, passed away at the age of 88 in Miami, Florida. He was born in Juasimal, municipio of the province of Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, and grew up in the batey of Herradura, where he was known and loved by neighbors and friends who would remain close to his heart throughout his life.

Agustín carried the spirit of his hometown with him wherever he went. After coming to the United States, he made his home in Sunnyside, Queens, New York, becoming a respected and familiar presence in his community. For more than 60 years, he worked with dedication and pride as a banquet manager at the Manhattan Hilton in New York City. His strong work ethic, professionalism, and reliability earned him the admiration of colleagues and guests alike. He was a man who valued independence and firmness in his principles, yet was deeply compassionate toward those facing hardship.

One of Agustín’s greatest joys was traveling back to Cuba to visit family, reconnect with old neighbors, and walk the streets and paths of his childhood in Herradura. He never forgot his roots. During these visits, he made it a personal mission to attend funeral wakes for fellow townspeople, quietly offering financial assistance so families could meet funeral expenses and honor their loved ones with dignity. His generosity toward the downtrodden was constant and heartfelt.

Agustín was part of a strong, united family. Together, they worked tirelessly to help bring relatives and friends from Cuba to what he always called “the greatest country in the world,” the United States. His life was a testament to perseverance, loyalty, and devotion to family.

He will be remembered for his integrity, his generosity, his deep love for his homeland and his adopted country, and for the countless lives he touched through simple acts of kindness. Agustín’s legacy lives on in the family he helped uplift and in the community that will always remember him with affection.

He is mourned by his loving family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be eternal and a source of comfort to those he leaves behind.
