Alric Hervin Lyew Sang, the fifth child from the union of Ah Sang Lyew ( Wu kai Sha, HK) and Janie Antoinette Powell-Lyew Sang, on Monday the 15th day of December 1941 entered the world and departed on the 29th day of June 2021. He was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica until the age of ten when the family returned to Old Harbour, in St Catherine Jamaica. Alric continued his education at the Ludford Trust elementary school (aka Old Harbour Primary) for the next two years. Alric being the last boy was spoilt and loved by his older siblings not just because he was quiet, shy, and unassuming, but a fine-looking boy as well. Alric was also a mama’s boy and our parents at the advice of others decided that he would be better off at a boarding school. So, at the age of twelve he was sent off to Clarendon College in Chapelton, for five years where he excelled in both academics and sports, winning several trophies in javelin, discus and shot put, where he held the record for several years. Thankfully, he was always home for Easter, Summer, and Christmas. He spent some of his summer days making kites and flying them from the roof of the chicken coop or competing with the boys on our street for fun. His favorite past times were spent reading everything and anything, playing music, or singing along with the old 78’s or 33, s records on a gramophone/record player. He could also be found with a sketch book or working on his body building techniques. He was a skinny lanky teenager, and he was determined to change that image. He did such a good job on himself; he entered a few bodybuilding competitions as well as Vere John singing competitions which he won beating (my boy Lollipop singer Millie Small). Alric also had a black belt in Karate. Alric lived his life having friends from all walks of life, always helping others as he could with their careers, relationships and livelihood through his love, wisdom, intellect and finances; Only measuring people by the content of their character.
After graduation Alric returned home a strong, determined and a very matured young man. He got the first job for which he had applied with our local Barclays bank. We knew when he got his first pay because he came home that evening bearing gifts. Claire got a genuine marble- based lamp, and I got a gold chain with a heart shaped pendant. Alric apparently loved the banking system because he made a career out of it, furthering his education at Jamaica School of Commerce and completed many other courses in banking throughout his career which enabled him to be promoted accordingly. Starting from bank manager, unto several other job opportunities, to ending his Career working for the Jamaican Government at the Ministry of Agriculture as Auditing Inspector of banks throughout the Island, which required him to drive extensively over the island five days per week, after which he retired, and migrated to Miami Florida.
At 18 years of age Alric's first love was a pretty young lady Patsy Duhaney, she gave him three beautiful children Richard, Lorraine, and Raymond(UK). Alric was married twice, his first marriage to Blossom Mignott ended in a divorce but produced two beautiful daughters Sheryl and Michelle. Eventually, when the time was right God blessed his life with beautiful, kind, loving, and wonderful woman, Beverly Nicholson-Lyew Sang with whom he found the love, joy, and peace he truly deserved. Beverly and Alric are proud parents of Sean and Leisel who gave them three beautiful grandchildren. My brother was absolutely loved with so much tender love and devotion. As his condition worsened, the more tirelessly Bev, Leisel, Sean and the family worked to make him well and comfortable. Unfortunately God and nature, eventually the victor of time. Alric was a wonderful brother especially to me; my champion, an encourager, and defender, he had a gentle and a great heart that was so easily bruised. Like King David in Psalm 138:8 The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. Alric died peacefully at home with his family who loved and cherished him, which was his greatest wish that God granted.
Alric was preceded in death by his parents Janie and Ah Sang Lyew; sister Vinnette, brothers Owen and Teddy and last sister Claire.
He leaves his Loving wife Beverly; his seven beloved children, his 10 Grandchildren: Stacey, Richardo, Trifina, Malik, Iyele, Julius, Niah and 9 Great GrandChildren: India, Ishmael, Italia, Sweden, Jhaun, Kessieana, Nashella, Jayquan and Zhaydrain, Alric's Legacy will live on through them. He also leaves behind his older brother Samuel (Hong Kong) , his younger sister Elaine (Tampa) a few nieces and nephews; and lots of friends.
Alric was Love.
Joy will come again with morning - God is Love and gives us all eternal rest.
Psalm 27
