When her children were younger she attended every school event and awards ceremony, and participated in school PTA meetings. She worked as a cashier for Grand Union for 35 years and was a member of the German-American Club, where she helped her friends during various club events, including the Oktoberfest, which was held annually at the club. She also worked with friends at various parties and events they catered, including the Oktoberfest and Gran Prix races held in Downtown Miami among others.
