Anna Reale Teresa Egan was born on July 31, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, to Francis Egan and Teresa Monti. She had an older brother, Andrew Egan, who predeceased her in 1970. When Anna (Ann) was six years old, her mother passed away. Unfortunately, her father was unable to care for her or her brother. Andrew went to live with their paternal grandmother, who unfortunately was blind and unable to care for a young child. Ann lived in several places until she finally went to reside with her aunt and uncle, May and Charlie Schwarz, and their children, Mary Lorraine and Evelyn. She resided with them until October 22, 1955, when she married Charles (Charlie) John Meyer.
Ann attended St. Brendan’s Diocesan High School in Brooklyn, graduating in 1951. While at St. Brendan’s, she made several life-long friends. After high school and some college, she went to work for the claims division at an insurance company. While working there, she often went to eat lunch at a diner near Penn Station, where she met Charlie at the soda counter where he worked. Their first date was at Charlie’s sister and brother-in-law’s (Marie and Harry Harris’) anniversary party.
After their marriage, Ann and Charlie lived in Queens, New York, with their two eldest daughters until January of 1964, when they moved to Miami, Florida, where three more children were born. Charlie was diagnosed in the early sixties with multiple sclerosis. Ann cared for his every need until he passed away on May 28, 1998. During part of that time, she also cared for her mother-in-law, Sophie Meyer, until her death on March 20, 1982. Ann was a faithful, godly woman known for her selflessness. She was always thinking of others and taking care of all, regardless of her own needs.
Ann was a sales associate at Byrons (later Uptons) for 13 years on the evening shift, until the store closed permanently, at which time she retired. Ann was a devout Catholic, never missing Mass at St. Brendan Catholic Church, eventually becoming a eucharistic minister after her husband passed. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Ann is survived by her children: Mary (George) Trudeau of Miami, FL, Catherine (Scott) Calta of Dallas, GA, Diane (Joseph) Bridges of Snellville, GA, John (Melissa) Meyer of Murfreesboro, TN, and Dorothy (Israel) Jimenez of Miami, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alyson and George Trudeau; Christiane (Travis) Burton, Jenna and Lauren Bridges; John and Samantha Meyer; Christian and Sophia Jimenez; and great-grandchildren Gryffin Moore and Hudson Burton.
Ann died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on April 4th, 2022, at the age of 88. She will be greatly missed, but will always be lovingly remembered, forever holding a special place in our hearts.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May Anna’s soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
