Carmen, known to many as “Peachy”, was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on May 6th, 1928. She grew up near Old San Juan, in the Puerta de Tierra neighborhood, the only (and favorite!) child of Jose Maldonado and Josefina Garcia. She attended school at the local parish school of San Agustin, where she exceled in academics and sports, particularly volleyball. After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary in a pharmacy and later as a bank teller. Later in life, her greatest pride and accomplishment were her family, especially her four children, Gabriel, Alberto, Edgar and Mayra, and eventually her eleven grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren. Peachy was a dynamo throughout her life, always carrying a big smile, full of life, spreading joy to others. An awe-inspiring Catholic, she spread her faith with gentleness and conviction (and sometimes not so quietly). She was talented and inquisitive, known in the neighborhood as the go-to person for baking tips, home decorating, and as a party planner. She was tough and fearless, during New Year’s holidays, she enjoyed lighting up fireworks, the louder the better!! She was adventuresome, going on moped rides into her mid-80’s, partying with grandchildren, spreading love to all her family and friends. We were fortunate to have had Peachy / Mami / Bueli / Bia / Carmen, etc., in our lives, and know that heaven will be welcoming her with open arms. Her family welcomes any donations to be made in her honor to: St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 7377 SW 64 Street, Miami, FL 33143 or Easter Seals of South Florida at 1475 NW 14 Avenue Miami, FL 33125.
