Eileen Katherine Englert, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2019. She was born on January 22, 1950 in Havana, Cuba, to Frank J. and Alicia S. Englert. In 1959, she relocated with her family to Miami, Florida.
While Eileen suffered from intellectual and physical disabilities her entire life, she always served as an example to those around her of unconditional love, joy, and innocent life. Eileen particularly enjoyed attending school when she was young at Hope Center in Miami, where she looked forward to busy days of activities, field trips, arts and crafts, and especially family show nights, where she would enthusiastically sing for a gathering of family and friends.
What can never be overstated about Eileen’s life and her temperament was her abundant love for her family, but in particular, for her mother, Alicia. Eileen’s place of preference during her entire life was to be immediately by Alicia’s side. As age, abilities, and location later prevented that proximity, their unbreakable bond was on full display during a visit between the two in March. Just weeks before Alicia’s passing in early May, they sat side-by-side holding hands, silently reinforcing their incredible commitment to each other in one final emotional reunion. Alicia always felt Eileen should be by her side and now Alicia and our heavenly Father have called Eileen home so they can once again be together, with one big difference: Eileen is now perfect in body, mind, and soul!
Eileen loved to laugh and cause others to laugh. Her father, Frank, always liked to tell the story of a family road trip where Eileen, for some unknown reason, decided to roll down the station wagon window, remove one shoe and then proceed to toss it out the window while shouting, “¡Adios zapato!” That was it; the shoe was gone, but Alicia most assuredly had other shoes packed and Frank enjoyed many years of hysterical laughter recounting the story.
Eileen is survived by her five siblings: Patricia, Frank, Jennifer, Theresa, and Leslie and their spouses, as well as ten nieces and nephews and a grand niece and nephew.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1st at 7 p.m. at Caballero Rivero Funeral Home of Westchester, followed by a funeral mass at Epiphany Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 2nd at 10:30 a.m. A Christian burial will take place following mass at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetary.
Eileen’s family will always carry her memory in their hearts.
