Elena Yon, born on February 4, 1934, in China, passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 92. Her life was a remarkable journey across continents, defined by courage, sacrifice, and unshakable love. After making her way to Cuba as a young woman, she met the love of her life, Benito Yon, and together they built their dreams in a country they came to cherish. When the rise of Fidel Castro brought uncertainty and hardship, Elena and Benito made the painful decision to flee the only home they had known as a couple, seeking freedom and opportunity in Miami. With heavy hearts but determined spirits, they began again, carrying with them their faith, their culture, and their devotion to family.
In Miami, Elena and her beloved Benito—who preceded her in death in 2011—worked tirelessly to create a better life for their four children. Together they owned and operated La Casita Cubana , a small grocery store that became a beacon of familiarity and comfort for many in the community. Behind the counter, Elena’s gentle smile and warm presence made everyone feel like family. She was the heart of her home: a devoted mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and the quiet strength that held generations together. Even in life’s hardest moments, she radiated grace, resilience, and unconditional love.
A visitation will be held at Caballero Rivero Little Havana, located at 3344 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135, on March 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The committal service is scheduled for March 9, 2026, at 2:30 pm at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North, 3260 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135. Though her earthly journey has ended, the love Elena planted in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will continue to bloom for generations to come.
