

Harlo E. Von Wald, a beloved husband and father passed away peacefully in his home on August 16, 2024, in Miami, FL. He was 88 years old. Harlo was born in Santa Marta, Colombia in 1935. He was educated in the United States and was a Graduate of the Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana where he was in the prestigious "Black Horse Troop". He then joined the United States Air Force, and after an honorable discharge he attended and
Graduated from the University of Florida, as a horticulturist..
While attending the University of Florida, he met his future wife, Joy, the love of his life.
They were happily married for 53 years until her passing in 2012.
In the beginning of their marriage Harlo was hired by the United Fruit Company , aka Chiquita Banana Co. , as a manager and moved his family to Honduras, Central America. They lived in Latin America for 12 years after which they returned to Miami Beach, Florida, where his wife, Joy, had grown up..
Harlo took a position with the Department of Agriculture for the State of Florida, and then later took a position with the United States Department of Agriculture until he retired.
He was an active member, along with his wife, Joy, in the Bromeliad Society. He enjoyed working with plants and traveling.
Harlo is survived by his sister, Beatriz Ward and his 4 children, Mitch von Wald, Richard von Wald, Laurie Ann von Wald and Robert von Wald, and his 3 grandchildren, Lino, Richard, and Montana, and 3 great grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Harlo was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those around him. He had a successful career and was deeply involved in his community, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a word of wisdom.
Harlo’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the lives of his family and friends.
