April 9, 1960 – August 17, 2025
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Humberto (“Bert”) Hugo Ocariz, who left us on August 17, 2025, at the age of 65.
Born on April 9, 1960, in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Miami, Bert carried both cultures in his heart. He built a life that reflected his values of perseverance, compassion, and love for his family and friends. Bert attended the University of Miami and the University of Miami School of Law and established himself as a prominent figure in the legal community. As an experienced litigator and trial attorney, he specialized in complex commercial litigation, guiding clients through high-stakes matters. A regular first-chair at trial, Bert was known for his strategic acumen and earned the respect of colleagues and adversaries alike. He also took great pride in mentoring young lawyers, which left a lasting impact on the next generation of attorneys.
Bert was an extraordinary husband, creating a beautiful and loving marriage with his beloved wife, Rebecca. Their love was a source of strength and joy, and their bond stood as a testament to the power of trust, companionship, and shared dreams.
As a father, Bert was always there for his children—Daniel, Melissa, and Jessica—providing them with unconditional love, steadfast support, and a guiding light through both joyous and challenging times. Bert is also remembered by his grandson, Jagger Mustelier; his loving brother, Hiram Ocariz; his sister, Helen Ocariz; their families; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and in-laws.
Those who knew Bert will remember his generosity and selflessness. He had an extraordinary ability to lift others, to listen with compassion, and to give without expecting anything in return. His warmth, humor, and open-hearted nature left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the following charities, which embody the spirit of Bert’s life and will help support causes that align with his values:
