Irma,Titi, Mom: We celebrated birthdays, holidays, accomplishments. We hosted memorials, lunches, dinners. We welcomed many for sleepovers ,a  place to rest ,  and/ or a place to live for a time. Despite many challenges, mom’s faith , stubbornness, & unconditional love showed us how to be a faithful,  hopeful, loving, caring, & giving family… We will continue to “live life” in her memory & my father’s memory too! ❤️🦋

Months later I still can't bring myself to close this web page. I féel if I do I will be admitting you're gone.  It's easier to sit in denial from this distance and miles between.  The less I talk to my wonderful God brother and beautiful God sis enables me to not have to deal with  reality. It's easier to push away and be angry at the world than to face the truth although it's selfish because I am not the only one suffering your loss. I watched my son break down a couple days ago missing the only person he knew as a grandmother. I try to keep it all in and be strong when I'm screaming inside because I miss you so much. I get some comfort knowing you are reunited  with Padrino and Irmita. You showed me what it was like to have unconditional love (I know how difficult I was as a child/teen) you never gave up on me. I love you always mi bella madrina.

Words can’t really express the sense of loss we feel. Irma was my mother’s closest friend for 60 years. She took care of me in their home more times than I can count and I have such memories of her laughing at my insistence that as a child I wouldn’t drink coffee or have dessert with dinner. My strongest memory is her once mediating a huge fight I had had with my father. She followed me out to my car after the shouting and sat down with me as I cried and insisted that she was doing all she could to help my father accept me as I am, something that was clear he was having trouble with, although it wasn’t explicitly expressed in the heated argument. I believe it was at that moment that she told me that whenever I had a serious boyfriend, he would be welcome to the annual family Thanksgiving celebration.

It was that support that was a thread I held onto for years as my relationship with my father was frayed beyond words. When, 30 years ago, I finally had a partner I was serious about, I told my parents I was bringing my now-husband, Doug, to the gathering, he pitched a fit and said he wouldn’t attend, insisting it would be a problem. With that knowledge, I was able to tell him that it was OK with the Rodriguez family and the two of us would be there, whether he would be there or not. (As it turned out, he came and he and my Doug became fast friends from that day until his recent death.) And I have Irma to thank for that. 

I ache for Luis and Gladys and the many people she touched so deeply. I know she changed my life for the better. And for her presence, we are all so much better. May she live in our hearts forever.

Doña Irma- You built a happy home not only for your family, but for any and all. Mi casa es tu casa, was not just a cliche saying to you. Once we entered, we were family and we had to be fed of course :)Oh we will miss your arroz con gandules. Que rico! And we will miss the stories you so joyfully shared of your youth.  You shared advice when it was needed and listened thoughtfully.  Going back home will not be the same without you to visit. I know St. Peter swung the gates wide open and without a doubt our Holy Father and others are celebrating your arrival in the Kingdom of Heaven.  Luis and Gladys have and always will  continue your legacy of kindness and compassion towards others.    Rest In Peace now Dona Irma.

Irma and her husband were one of my favorite customers when I worked in Grand Union back in the 70’s!   I had recently arrived from Puerto Rico and we bonded over that! They were always super friendly!  After I stopped working at the supermarket, I lost contact with them, but years later, her niece, Nilda and I met at JMH Nuclear Medicine Dept and eventually figured out that they were her aunt and uncle and actually also worked at JMH! Irma was a kind, welcoming woman of faith! A beautiful human being. I will miss you and your wonderful parties and your delicious coquito! RIP Titi Irma🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I didn’t know Irma very well, but I know she raised wonderful children. What a beautiful family. May her soul Rest In Peace and May the family find peace and strength in knowing she is with the Lord.

I knew her as kind and dignified, a woman of faith and honesty.  I am remembering Gladys, Luis, and all their family. I was blessed in many ways by the Miami community and the families we served through the church. My prayers for God's peace and blessing are with you all.

Tia. I will miss you and the maracas. The Thanksgiving  gatherings and  the birthday parties. And your love for roosters . TQM 

Bellos recuerdos de mi juventud al lado de una familia con un corazón enorme. Doña Irma siempre con los brazos abiertos haciéndome sentir parte de la familia. Siempre compartiendo nuestro amor por los mangos deliciosos.  Su cariño no sólo fue para mi, también para toda mi familia 

Irma was a fighter live sometimes gave her lemons but she always knew how to put tequila on it. At the end of her road the Lord gave her the blessing to return to her home and left in the company of her children. That was a blessing. My dear friend I will never forget you and you will always be in my prayers.Have a great trip home will always love you 

Titi was always so welcoming. I will always remember entering her house when visiting and dancing with her. She will always be the Tia I tell my students about when it comes dancing with family.
