Simply "Cueto", as I knew and referred to him.  Close friend to my father's side of the family mainly brotherly close to my uncle, Manolo Herrero.  Cueto and Manuel schooled, studied and worked together and after both leaving Cuba with Cueto living in Miami and Manolo in Puerto Rico, they remained closed and would see each other here or there whenever possible.

Cueto and I had a special family type friendship.  I had a lot of respect for him as a man of values and as a professional in his real estate business.  For the last fifteen years before his passing, he selected me to handle his tax matters.   

The last time we talked was in August 2019.  He had mentioned to me that he had never been to the new baseball stadium to see the Miami Marlins play.  I told him I had purchased two tickets for us to go but due to his physical limitations he had to decline the offer.  Then in 2000 came the pandemic and in that year, he passed on.  

It's now been five years since.  His memory is still carved in my lifetime memory as someone that I was honored and privileged to have known.    Lazaro ("Larry") Herrero 07/30/2025

I've known "Cueto", as I've always referred to him by this term, as far back as I can in Cuba.  Cueto was not a blood relative of mine but was practically a family member.  He went to school, graduated and went to work, in Cuba, with my uncle, Manolito Herrero.  Manolita and Cueto, although living in distances, were livelong friends as brothers and remained in contact thru the years.  When Manolito passed on, Cueto stayed in touch with his wife, Delia, and their daughter, Irene, until both of them passed on.  I recall Cueto attending many parents that my parents at home both in Cuba and in Miami and for the past almost twenty years me reconnecting with him.  Since then I have done tax work for Cueto besides sitting in my office and talking for hours once the work was done.  A more respectable, honest and sweet man I have never met and wished that a man such as him had been my father.  Cueto would call me and leave a voice message for me to call him back so I never listened to his messages.  I simply called back.  On August 3 I received a call and message and, as I always did, I just called back but no answer.  It wasn't until today that I listened to the message where his daughter told me of his passing and of the services date which, obviously, I missed.  I am heartbroken at the loss of Cueto who I truly loved as he had been my father or uncle.  I invited him on many ocassions to go with me to Marlins Park, which he had not been to, but due to his declining health he was not able to accept.  I was left with being able to give him that enjoyment.  May he RIP and my condolences to his daughter and his son.  In these past years I would see the daughter with him in my office.  I remember her also from years back in Cuba.  I also remember Cueto's son, Jose, from Cuba although I don't think I had seen him since.  May he rest along with his wife in eternal peace and tranquility.  Cueto, you did good.

My memories of him , are many’s.
Deep caring voice . Always positive, and helpful.
And caring  always for the family!
It will be missed and remember .

Jose was born a Cuban, lived as an American but was a citizen of the world.  He was respected and respectable because he lived life to the fullest. God, family and country were his priority.

We were close friends and Emmaus brothers who shared the joy of each having a special wife but then losing that cherished wife.  

After 11am Mass each Sunday I asked. "Como te va viejo?" 
"Eh, quien aqui esta viejo?" He was always 20 years younger than what Social Security might have declared.

He was truly a Rennaissance Man with culture and refinement uncommon in today's hectic society.   Small in stature but grand in manner; his voice will awaken the angelic choirs.

I wish you my sincere condolences on your father’s passing. He was a wonderful uncle to me, offering advice, support and comfort on many occasions. I loved him very much and wish him much peace in the afterlife.
