It is with immense love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Jose Antonio Viera. Jose was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico on December 22nd, 1934 and passed away peacefully on October 30th, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born to Sara Colon and Antonio Viera. He spent his early youth in Puerto Rico, eventually moving to the Bronx New York when Sara remarried to Leoncio Munoz. Jose graduated from City College in New York with a Civil Engineering degree, and joined the Army National Guard. He met the love of his life, Elba Zayas and married in 1957. Jose went on to build a life grounded in hard work, integrity, faith and love.
The majority of his work life was spent in sales of excavators for Koehring and National Crane. His work took him around the world, first through Europe then Latin American.
Though he traveled often, his heart was always anchored at home with his loving wife and four boys Robert, Edward, Michael, and Jose.
More than anything, Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His greatest joy was his family. He led by example, teaching us the value of honesty, humility, compassion and love. He was one of God’s most faithful servants, giving of his time, wisdom, and faith to all the members of his beloved parish, St. John Neumann.
Whether through his quiet strength, sense of humor, or the way he always made time for others, he left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elba Viera, his son Robert Viera and daughter-in-law Antonia Viera and grandchildren Maria Fucci [Bill Fucci] Anthony Viera, his son Edward Viera and daughter-in-law Azalea Viera and grandchildren Tatiana DeVilbiss [William DeVilbiss], and Anton Viera, his son Michael Viera and daughter-in-law Kristy Viera and grandchildren Julia Loveall [Tyler Loveall], Alexander Viera, and Nickolas Viera, his son Jose Viera and daughter-in-law Jodi Viera and grandchildren Evan Viera, Ella Viera, and Ava Viera, along with great grandchildren, other family members and countless friends.
We are comforted in knowing that Jose has been welcomed into God’s glory.
