Kenia Martinez

Nuestra querida Kenia Martínez falleció el sábado 22 de agosto, rodeada por su familia, y después de batallar la enfermedad ALS/ELA por más de tres años. Kenia falleció en paz después de una breve estadía en el West Kendall Baptist Hospital en Miami. Como sucedió durante su enfermedad, Kenia falleció aceptando la voluntad de Dios y sabiendo que era amada por su familia, sus pacientes y sus amigos.

Kenia nació en Camagüey, Cuba, y vivió allí hasta que emigró con su familia para los Estados Unidos en 1995. En Cuba, ella recibió su educación inicial, y en Miami completó sus estudios universitarios, que culminaron cuando La Universidad de Miami le otorgó el título de Doctora Pediátrica.

Como muchos de su generación, Kenia empezó su vida en Cuba y la terminó en los Estados Unidos. Ella tuvo una vida rica, inigualable y gratificante. Pudo escapar la opresión del comunismo y progresar en la libertad de América. A través de su extraordinaria vida Kenia siempre mantuvo sus principios, fe cristiana, civismo, humanidad y compasión.

Kenia fue una gran madre, una esposa ejemplar, una hija magnifica, una hermana maravillosa, una doctora extraordinaria, una fiel amiga y un modelo ideal para muchos, pero sobre todo, fue una guerrera con una resistencia sin igual, y un espíritu que luchó por su familia y por ella misma en todas las facetas de la vida. Era conocida por su inteligencia, su chispa, candor, elegancia, firmeza y visión, lo que siempre le ganó el respeto y la admiración de todos los que fueron parte de su vida.

Profesionalmente, la Doctora Kenia Martínez fue una estrella en su profesión, donde ganó innumerables honores y gran respeto por su talento, carácter y compasión. Personalmente, Kenia siempre fue un faro de luz para su familia y la persona a la que todos venían cuando necesitaban ayuda, consejos, fuerza y esperanza. Su coraje, sinceridad y entereza fueron siempre ejemplar, solamente igualados por el amor que ella sentía por su familia.

Kenia deja un legado único y legendario para los que ella tanto amó. Ella es sobrevivida por su esposo Alexander Peña y sus hijos Alexander y Lucas. También la sobreviven sus padres, Henry Martínez y Nancy Pérez, su hermana Annya y esposo Fernando Recio y sobrinos Fernando y Manuel. Además de su familia inmediata en Miami, Kenia tiene tíos, tías, primos y amigos en Cuba, New Jersey, California, España y muchos otros lugares.

El velorio será el miércoles, agosto 26, de 4:00 pm a 11:59 pm, en la funeraria Caballero Rivero Sunset, 7355 SW 117th Avenue, Miami FL 33183.

Su entierro tendrá lugar el jueves, agosto 27, a las 11:00 am en el cementerio y mausoleo Caballero Rivero Palms Woodlawn Park, 27100 Old Dixie Highway, Naranja, FL 33032

Our beloved Kenia Martínez passed away on Saturday, August 22, surrounded by her family, after battling ALS for more than three years. Kenia passed away peacefully following a brief stay at West Kendall Baptist Hospital in Miami. Just as she had lived throughout her illness, she departed this life accepting God's will and knowing she was deeply loved by her family, patients, and friends.

Kenia was born in Camagüey, Cuba, and lived there until she emigrated to the United States with her family in 1995. She received her early education in Cuba and completed her university studies in Miami, culminating in the University of Miami awarding her the degree of Doctor of Medicine (specializing in Pediatrics).

Like many of her generation, Kenia began her life in Cuba and concluded it in the United States. She led a rich, unique, and fulfilling life. She was able to escape the oppression of communism and thrive in the freedom of America. Throughout her extraordinary life, Kenia always upheld her principles, Christian faith, civic spirit, humanity, and compassion.

Kenia was a devoted mother, an exemplary wife, a magnificent daughter, a wonderful sister, an extraordinary doctor, a loyal friend, and an ideal role model for many; above all, however, she was a warrior with unmatched resilience and a spirit that fought for her family and herself in every facet of life. She was known for her intelligence, her spark, candor, elegance, steadfastness, and vision—qualities that always earned her the respect and admiration of everyone who was part of her life.

Professionally, Dr. Kenia Martínez was a star in her field, earning countless honors and great respect for her talent, character, and compassion. Personally, Kenia was always a beacon of light for her family and the person everyone turned to when they needed help, advice, strength, and hope. Her courage, sincerity, and fortitude were always exemplary, matched only by the love she felt for her family. Kenia leaves behind a unique and legendary legacy for those she loved so dearly. She is survived by her husband, Alexander Peña, and her sons, Alexander and Lucas. She is also survived by her parents, Henry Martínez and Nancy Pérez; her sister, Annya, and her husband, Fernando Recio; and her nephews, Fernando and Manuel. In addition to her immediate family in Miami, Kenia has aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends in Cuba, New Jersey, California, Spain, and many other places.

The viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. at Caballero Rivero Sunset Funeral Home, 7355 SW 117th Avenue, Miami, FL 33183.

Her burial will take place on Thursday, August 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Caballero Rivero Palms Woodlawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, 27100 Old Dixie Highway, Naranja, FL 33032.
