Lisardo (Lin) Julian Martinez, age 87, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, at his home in Miami, Florida. Born in Gibara, Cuba, to Lisardo Luciano and Matilde Leonor Martinez, Lin lived a life guided by the timeless virtues of honor, generosity, and fairness.
Lin attended high school in Hendersonville, North Carolina and later pursued veterinary medicine at the Universidad de Habana. In 1958, he married Mirna de la Torre, and together they embarked on a journey that led them from Cuba to Mexico and back again. In 1962, with their young son, they made the life-changing decision to leave their beloved Gibara and emigrate to the United States escaping the Castro Communist government.
Lin was a man known for his principles and unwavering commitment to those he loved. He was a devoted husband to Mirna for 66 years, and together they raised three children: Lisardo (Carmen) Martinez, Isabel (Mamad) Mohtaj, and Laura Espino. Lin's love for and pride in his family were evident, especially in the joy he found in his six grandchildren: Lisardo (Erika), Michael (Marisa), Virginia (Drew), Tara, Kenny (d. 2010), and Cyrus; and seven great-grandchildren: Abbie, Rosie, Dahlia, Jonas, Caleb, Max, and Betty.
Throughout his long career in veterinary medicine, Lin was respected for his integrity and dedication. He approached his work wholeheartedly, making a positive impact on those who knew him as colleagues and clients alike.
A Mass will be offered for Lin on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Kevin Catholic Church, 12525 SW 42nd Street, Miami, FL 33175. An interment of ashes ceremony will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, 11411 NW 25 Street, Doral, FL 33172.
Lin will be remembered by his family and friends as a man of strength, principle, and deep commitment, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
