Born on February 16, 1945, in Güines, Cuba, Marta was the beloved daughter of Manolo Rodríguez and Margarita de Armas.
At just 15 years old, Marta made the courageous journey to the United States through Operation Peter Pan in 1962. She graduated from Miami Senior High and embraced this country as her home, becoming a proud United States citizen in 1989. Though Cuba always held a special place in her heart, Miami became the foundation of the life she lovingly created.
In 1965, Marta married Jose Luis Lafont. Their marriage was one of devotion and partnership until his passing in 1982. Together, they built a family rooted in love, raising three children: Lisette, Luis, and Lianise.
Marta’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother and a deeply loving grandmother. Her grandchildren, Jorge Luis, Jisette, and Jake were truly the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She was full of energy and spirit that could fill any room, with a smile that brought comfort and a laugh that will echo in the hearts of those she loved. She had a gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and deeply cared for.
Marta’s legacy is one of love, courage, and unwavering devotion to family. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the lives she shaped, the memories she created, and the love she gave so freely.
She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
