Calhoun, Lee Melvin June 10, 1938-May 11, 2016: Melvin was born June 10th, 1938, in Plant City, Florida, to parents Ossie Lee Calhoun and Eunice Williams Calhoun, and passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on May 11, 2016. He and his family moved to Miami when he was a young boy, and it was there that he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Nancy Bryan. He was a true family man; a devoted and grateful husband, proud father, and a loving grandfather. Melvin was a second generation Floridian, an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, especially the Everglades and Florida Keys. He loved to share his passion for fishing and taught family and friends how to fish, guiding them through the backcountry and offshore as well. He started his own plastering business when he was 15 and later became a building contractor, working as partners with his son Dennis. His skilled plastering technique helped to restore the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables and contributed to creating many custom masterpieces throughout his beloved Miami. His work ethic and integrity was respected by many in his industry. Melvin is survived by Nancy, his loving wife of 58 years, children Dennis (Kathy), Deborah (Amy McGrotty) and Diane; grandchildren Dylan and Hannah Calhoun, Devon and Brooke Olefson, brother Frank Calhoun (Pat), sister Lovell Sweeting (Lavern), and many other loving family members too numerous to mention. Melvin tragically lost a son Douglas in 1979, and we pray they are together again, resting in peace. A Celebration of Life Service will be held beginning at 11:00 am May 21, 2016. South Kendall Community Church 16550 SW 147 Avenue Miami, Florida 33187. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be sent to Coastal Conservation Association Florida ccaflorida.org Funeral services provided by Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South 305-238-3672
