Mercedes Maria Hernandez

Mercedes who was affectionately known as Mercy, was an incredibly strong woman. She prayed every night and was very spiritual in her own way.

She came to this country in 1968, at the age of 33. Did not speak the language. With two small children and her mother in law, she followed the American dream through hard work. Her husband joining her one year later. She was to later remarry until his passing. She was only 48 when she became a widow. Mercedes continued her mission of hard work. Putting her youngest daughter through medical school. Was always an inspiration to her daughters and grandchildren and all who were around her that she could encourage. Taught her family the value of hard work and dedication. An accomplished business woman who set an example to all who knew her.

Once she became ill, she spent time with daughters. Eventually living in New Mexico with youngest daughter and then in Iowa where she passed. She lived life on her own terms. Was loved and cared for until her final day when she was called to paradise and join her loved ones.

We celebrate her life and will always treasure her memory. Rest in Peace.
