Micaela Diaz, 96, passed away peacefully at home on August 23rd, 2020 while surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Filiberto, her daughter Leonila, and her son-in-law Edward. She is survived by her three daughters, Carmen and her husband Guido, Mercy, and Odalis and her wife Gina; her grandson, Carlos and his wife Shanna, her granddaughter Cathy; her great-granddaughters Abby and Ellie; and her beloved dog, Mimi.
Micaela (“Quela” to her close friends) dedicated her life to her family. She and her husband risked their lives, left everything behind in Cuba, and escaped in the middle of the night in search of a better life for their four daughters. After losing her husband at the age of 57, she became the matriarch of our family. Her strength, love, and support brought much comfort and joy to our family as we faced all of life’s challenges and enjoyed family gatherings.
She adored her grandchildren and great granddaughters who were the light of her life. And she was a wonderful and loving friend, always staying in touch, remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.
An avid baseball fan, she loved the Florida Marlins. Season ticket holders with her daughter, Leonila, and her grandchildren, Carlos and Cathy, she never missed an opening game and remained a faithful fan throughout. Attending both World Series championships was the thrill of a lifetime for her. We will forever remember her excitement and happiness as she cheered them on.
She also loved her Punto Guajiro and The Price is Right. And how we will miss her laugh as we all sat together to watch Que Pasa U.S.A.?
We were blessed to have such a great Mother. We love her and miss her. Her memory will live in our hearts forever.
