Mirta Cisneros was born November 12, 1934 in Habana, Cuba to her late loving parents Teodoro Cisneros and Águeda Sardinas. She was one of three siblings, along with her two brothers Juan and Teddy whom she loved very much. Mirta was always fascinated and engulfed in the latest trends in fashion, hair, and make up. Her beauty was natural, but also something she made sure to keep up with and maintain. In her early years, she worked with the famous Cuban brand, Mirta de Perales, as a product ambassador. It was also in Cuba that she met her first husband, Jose “Pepe” Llaneras. Although their union would come to end, the relationship birthed the greatest gift of Mirta’s life, her daughter whom she also named Mirta. In 1972, the family immigrated out of communist Cuba in search of a better life. They lived in Spain, until finally making it to the United States in 1974.
It was in the US, that Mirta realized her entrepreneurial goals. She loved to make all kinds of beautiful flower and delicious fruit arrangements. She took this passion and started with a modest fruit cart on the streets of Downtown Miami. The popularity and demand for her fruit salads rose quickly and in the 1990s she was able to open a small cafeteria and named it, Sandwich Galore. It was family owned and operated, being run alongside her daughter, niece and second husband Francisco Muñoz. By this time in her life, she also had three grandchildren, whose summers were spent at the cafeteria helping with, but mostly eating, her delicious creations. Many fond memories and lasting friendships were formed during the years she ran the business.
“Abuela Mamore”, as she affectionately came to be named by her grandchildren, spent the rest of her life dedicated to her daughter and spoiling her grandkids. She was the most giving person you could ever meet, finding so much joy in shopping for and giving the perfect gift on every occasion. Cost was never an issue, if it meant a loved one’s happiness. Mirta also remained fashion and beauty conscious the rest of her life. No matter what, she always made sure to have a full face of makeup on, and her hair done. Her weekly appointments to “Carmita”, were her pampering time. It always made her so happy to look good and be fixed up. She was always well dressed, nails done, and put together gorgeously. Her skin made women half her age jealous at how soft and wrinkle free it was, due to the care she always took of herself. Religion and church were also very important to her. Abuela always spoke to us about her love for the lord and her participation at church. Her faith guided her and brought comfort and friendships into her life. Her perfect Sunday consisted of church, IHOP pancakes topped with strawberry preserves, and an afternoon of relaxing with all of us.
Mirta also had a heavenly voice to accompany her good looks. She took any and all chances to sing in front of a crowd, and it was always show stopping. Abuela could easily become the life of any party with her singing and dancing. It is something we will always remember.
In her last years, Mirta lost full control of her body and became bed bound. Her loving daughter, Mirta, immediately became her caregiver and took immaculate care of her till the end. She was surrounded by family and loved ones when she took her last breath. She passed away on Friday February 5, 2021.
Mirta is survived by her daughter Mirta and son in law Roberto, her three grandchildren, Jessica and husband Hiram, Vanessa and husband Adam, and Eduardo and wife Mehgan. Also her two great grandchildren, Desiree and Richard. We will live with the beautiful memories of Abuela Mamore, and her loving selfless nature. Her beauty was inside and out, and she will be remembered this way. We love you Abuela!
