Nicholas John Kateb

Nicholas was born December 3, 1941 in Charleston, West Virginia to Mary Risk and Nicholas J Kateb.

Nicholas is survived by his spouse, Claire Guérard Kateb; son Marc G. Kateb (Lee Ann Kateb); and son Nicholas J. Kateb (Kelly Brickman Kateb); sister Sonia Kateb Blair, brother-in-law Jacques Guérard (Réjeanne Gosselin), brother-in-law Yvon Guérard (Guylaine Dumas), sister-in-law Louise Guérard (Richard Larochelle), brother-in-law André Guérard (Thérèse Gendreau), sister-in-law Alyne Guérard (René Gosselin), sister-in-law Monique Guérard (René Lajeunesse), sister-in-law Nicole Guérard (José Bettencourt), brother-in-law Léo Guérard (Monique Desmarais), brother-in-law Pierre Guérard (Marie-Claude Savard), sister-in-law Denise Guérard (Alain Brousseau), sister-in-law Rita Guérard (François Gagnon) and brother-in-law Mario Guérard (Chantal Lapointe); grandchild Matthew Kateb, grandchild Korrin Brickman, grandchild Stephanie Kateb, great grandchild Connor Kateb and great grandchild Marlee Kateb.

Nicholas was preceded in death by father Nichols J Kateb and mother Mary Risk.

John also leaves many nephews, nieces, great grand nephews, great grand nieces, cousins, and many, many friends to honor his memory.

The Widow's Lament in Springtime -

Sorrow is my own yard

where the new grass

often before but not

with the cold fire

that closes round me this year.

Thirty-five years

I lived with my husband.

The plumtree is white today

with masses of flowers.

Masses of flowers

load the cherry branches

and color some bushes

yellow and some red

but the grief in my heart

is stronger than they

for though they were my joy

formerly, today I notice them

and turn away forgetting.

Today my son told me

that in the meadows,

at the edge of the heavy woods

in the distance, he saw

trees of white flowers.

I feel that I would like

to go there

and fall into those flowers

and sink into the marsh near them.
