Norma Hyacinth McGhie DaCosta
This is her Eulogy
Norma Hyacinth DaCosta was 85yrs old. She
was born on October 7th,1939. She was living in
Lakeland, Florida. She passed away on August 20th,
2025. Norma Hyacinth DaCosta was the daughter of
George and ILey McGhie. She was a sister to
Marjorie Akel, Shirley Hamilton and Kenneth McGhie.
Norma Hyacinth DaCosta was educated in Jamaica,
West IndIes; before immigrating to America and living in New
York. She was a supervisor at the State Insurance Fund for
many years before retiring. She moved to Florida almost 2
years ago with one of her daughters and two grandchildren.
Norma DaCosta loved to cook and bake and she
was phenomenal at both. She was an avid reader
and her favorite author was J.D. Robb. She loved to
garden and grow vegetables. I would say she had a
green thumb and fingers too.
Norma DaCosta also loved watching game
shows. She played on her cellphone/tablet casino
games and of course; being in an actual casino. She
really enjoyed watching those real old western shows
all the time too. She was a talented seamstress
meaning she could sew up a storm! There wasn’t
anything she couldn’t make. I believe she could have
given Donna Karan a run for her money.
Norma DaCosta was married to Carl Oswald
DaCosta who preceded her in death, October 31st, of
2002. She had five lovely Children; Michael DaCosta
(Cynthia), Marjorie DaCosta Vernon, Carla DaCosta,
Susan DaCosta-Pile, and Sharon DaCosta Duggan.
She also had a bunch of wonderful Grandchildren;
Michael DaCosta Jr. (Tori), Krystal DaCosta Anthony
(Michael), Jordan Vernon, Daniel Vernon. Christopher
Williams, Casandra DaCosta, Tyler Campbell, Crystal
Robinson, Natasha Charles-Pierre, Jonathan Pile, Gamachu
Asfew, Georgianna Duggan and Brianna Duggan.
She also had a bunch of spectacular
Great-Grandchildren; Michael DaCosta III, Nadia
DaCosta, Noelle Anthony, Kendall Anthony, Love’
Campbell, Demario Dendy, Marijah Charles-Pierre,
Gabrielle Charles-Pierre, Ethan Charles-Pierre,
Emmalyne Pile, Harley Duggan-Rapheal and Hunter
Duggan-Rapheal… along with many nieces and
nephews too.
May Norma Hyacinth DaCosta live-on in the hearts of
all who knew and loved her.
Thank you.
