Born June 4, 1938, in Havana, Cuba, Otto’s formative years were filled with diverse learning experiences in Cuba and the United States of America, graduating from Riverside Military Academy in Georgia. His university studies included Universidad Católica de Santo Tomás de Villanueva, University of Wisconsin and Nova Southeastern University.
He devoted his career to child and adult education for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, retiring as a school administrator in 2001. Otto was a formidable educator known and admired by many in our community.
As a God-loving Catholic he was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Miami, Florida. Otto was graced by our Heavenly Father to have formed his loving family with Maria Lilia Diaz, his wife of 47 years. He leaves behind his beloved wife; his cherished children, Nicholas and Olga (Andy White); treasured grandchildren, Walter, Alexander and Sofia; and ever-doting sister, Olga Machado.
He is deeply missed by numerous relatives and extended family. He is fondly remembered by many friends and neighbors as a righteous, caring, and true gentleman. We will miss his wisdom, kindness, and wit. Otto’s family extends a warm appreciation to the professional staff and empathetic caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living, Coral Gables, Florida.
