Rodrigo Bastidas

Rodrigo Bastidas, age 84, of Miami, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2021 after battling Alzheimer’s for many years. Rodrigo was born January 10, 1937 in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; Adelaida Bastidas, his three children ; Dr. Rodrigo (Audrey) Bastidas, Joan (Daniel ) Smyth, Edward (Yisselle)Bastidas and his five grandchildren; Daniel, Kristina, Landyn, Ethan and Grayson. Rodrigo was the eldest of the eleven children of Alfredo and Rosa Bastidas. He also leaves behind his ten younger siblings and their respective families; Miriam, Stella, Gloria, Olga, Alfredo, Cesar, Amparo, Beatriz, Alvaro, Elizabeth.

Rodrigo left a strong loving legacy of supporting his family by way of faith, love, family, education, courage and hard work (and passion for the construction industry). His foresight to move his young family (with the help of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy) and then extended family to the United States in the late 1960’s positively impacted his family, all his siblings , his in-laws, some friends as well as their own future families. All of which have always extended their gratefulness throughout his life.

Rodrigo was not only a life long fan of the Colombian soccer team America de Cali and the Spanish soccer team Barcelona but also played professionally for America de Cali and and with Bavaria’s corporate team in Cali, Colombia before moving to the United States.

The family will receive family and friends Sunday, December 26, 2021 at 6:00 PM until Midnight at Caballero Rivero Westchester, 8200 SW 40 Street, Miami, Florida 33155.

The family requests the honor of your presence Monday, December 27, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Church of the Little Flower, 2711 Indian Mound Trail, Coral Gables, Florida 33134.

Following the Mass, the committal service will take place at Our Lady Of Mercy, 11411 NW 25 St, Doral, Florida 33172.
