Roland Peter Diaz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, in Coral Gables, Florida, on November 27, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on September 7, 1933, in Havana, Cuba to Hilda and Pedro Diaz-Maestre, Roland's life was a testament to resilience, integrity, and unwavering dedication to family.
In 1959, Roland and his beautiful wife, Myrna, made the courageous decision to emigrate to the United States, seeking freedom and opportunity for their family. This pivotal move showcased his grit and determination, qualities he lovingly passed on to his loved ones. Once in the U.S., Roland pursued further education, earning both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Engineering from the University of Florida, building on his earlier degree in Accounting from the University of Havana.
Roland was celebrated for his intelligence, boundless curiosity, and a teasing nature that endeared him to many. His life was filled with adventure, enjoying many opportunities to travel with family and friends, and endless time sailing on his pride and joy, the Argo Navis. Yet, it was his family who remained the center of his universe. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Myrna Teresa Diaz, their four children: George Carlos (Marie) , Sylvia Maria (Julio), Ingrid Elena (Joseph), and Yvonne Marie (Jose) and his brother, Hector Pedro (Ginny) . His legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, who cherished the wisdom and life lessons he so lovingly shared.
Roland's life was a beacon of moral integrity and loyalty, teaching those around him the importance of patient communication, respect towards others, and putting family first. His memory will forever be treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
