

“Kathy,” age 66, a life-long resident of Miamisburg, passed away unexpectedly in her home over the Labor Day weekend. She was born on July 15, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Henry T. “Ted” Fink and Catherine Apke Fink, the second of their seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband of 28 years, Byron N. “Butch” Fortney. She is survived by her son, Thaddeus W. Fortney and his partner, Kristin Reed; her siblings, Ted (Kathy) Fink, Tom (Lynn) Fink, Bill (Marianne) Fink, Robin (Van) White, Geri (Fred) Hempel, and Mike (Gail) Fink; brother-in-law, Jon (Dina) Fortney; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and their families, and her beloved dog, Gracie. Kathy was a graduate of Miamisburg High School, Class of ’65; and the University of Cincinnati, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1970. She taught in the Miamisburg School System for 30 years, and was currently employed by the Miami Valley Career Technology Center, where she continued her long career in education helping many young adults attain their High School Equivalency Diploma (GED). Kathy was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, where she served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, and was also a St. Vincent de Paul volunteer. She was a devoted pet parent to her dogs Riley and Gracie, an avid reader, and she loved to crochet, producing countless creations for family, friends, and charity. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, students and fellow MVCTC staff members, and her neighbors of Indian Creek Towers, where she headed up the home owners’ association. Friends and family may visit from 5-8 pm on Friday, September 6 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am on Saturday, September 7 at St. Henry Catholic Church, 6696 Springboro Rd. Dayton, Ohio 45449 with Fr. Tom Schearer celebrant. Interment following at Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, 120 West Apple St. Dayton, Ohio 45402, in memory of Kathy.
