Stephen Edward Martin, age 77, of Centerville, Ohio passed away Friday, January 24, 2025. He was born in Sharonville, Ohio to the late Louise and Ralph Martin. Steve attended Princeton High School in Sharonville graduating Class of 1965 where he was involved in many extracurricular activities including drama, swimming, track, wrestling, and performing as the Viking mascot. He graduated with his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University on June 12, 1970.
Fresh out of college, he went to work for Turner Construction, where his first project was the Federal Reserve Bank building in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then worked for Foreman Industries in Dayton, Ohio before joining Baker Concrete Construction where he enjoyed a 34-year career before retiring as a Project Financial Analyst in 2015.
Outside of work, he was a dedicated family man to his wife of 43 years, Karen, and five children, Christy, Cathy, Shawn, David, and Kelly. As a family, they enjoyed activities like water skiing, boating, trips to their lake house, board games, and family vacations. He was a proud grandfather who loved playing outside and fishing with his 8 grandchildren in the backyard wonderland he created for them. And of course, it was one of his greatest joys watching them grow up.
In retirement, Steve loved travelling with Karen. They enjoyed visiting many national parks, but their favorite destination was Sedona, Arizona where they returned more than 30 times. He also enjoyed volunteering at Otterbein SeniorLife in Lebanon, Ohio for 15 years where he called “Howdy”, their version of “Bingo”. Steve and Karen also joined the Miamisburg Moose Lodge 1645 where they visited with friends every Monday night.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother, Richard, who passed as an infant.
Steve is survived by his wife, Karen Louise (nee Pelphrey) Martin; children, Christy (Michael) Quartermain, Cathy (Bradley) Almond, Shawn Martin, David Martin, and Kelly Fields; 8 grandchildren, Chloe, Christian, Riley, Campbell, Kayden, Ella, William, and Charlie; siblings, Thomas (Mary Kay) Martin, Susan (John) Eve, and Janet Martin; lifelong friends, Jeff and Terry Miller; and countless loved ones.
