Born on August 27, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to Attillio Manoni and Albertina (nee: Gobetti), Aldo lived a full and vibrant life rooted in family, friends, and a love for many special hobbies. It brings his family great comfort to know he is reunited with his beloved wife of 74 years, Evelyn.
Aldo was a proud veteran of World War II, serving honorably in the United States Navy. Stationed at the Mayport Naval Base in Florida, he played on the Mayport Blue Jackets baseball team, competing with and against several major league players of the time — a point of pride and lifelong memory. It is here that he exchanged letters with and married Evelyn; the beginning of their incredible partnership.
Outside of his military service and long career, Aldo was known for his many passions. He was a master gardener, spending countless hours learning and nurturing. He loved sending every guest home with a bag of fresh tomatoes or zucchini. He was also a familiar face at the racetrack, where he enjoyed the thrill of the sport and the art of a well-timed bet, and he never passed up a good game of cribbage. His homemade pasta, “homemades,” was legendary among family and friends, a cherished tradition that brought loved ones together around the table. When not tinkering around the house, Aldo could be found with Evelyn and a crossword in hand, or holding the nearest great-grandchild.
Aldo is deeply missed by his children, Tom (Cindy), Ken (Kim Fitch), and Susan Alman (Michael), his grandchildren, Wayne (Helen), Megan (Matt), Kelleen (Chris), Michael (Brittany), Morgan (Dan), and Mallory (Stephanie), and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his brother, Chero - “Buddy,” and many more special family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 16, 2025 from 4:30-7:30 PM at the A. RIPEPI & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY ROAD, MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS (WEST OF I-71). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve in honor of Aldo.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
