Our deepest condolences to Phyllis  and your family. Loving thoughts and prayers coming your way at this sad time. Gary was one of the kindest persons I knew. I never heard a negative word come out of his mouth. Even when angry. We knew him and his family since 1980 when we moved in across the street. He has such a loving family. My dad was the best. The very best. He was my softball coach, taught me to drive stick shift with the patience of a saint, bought tampons for my periods, drove hours to piano, sports practices, before/after school events. Told my first boyfriend in preschool he would rip his lips off if he kissed me (he didn't actually rip his lips off). Drove me to sleep overs. Figured out how to order me field hockey goalie pads from an Australian company pre-internet. Hauled my friends and I around to haunted houses when we couldn’t yet drive. Picked me and my friends up from bars when I was drunk we couldn’t actually drive. Went with me to concerts. He held my hand when the nurse broke my water. Gave Harry his blue eyes and Henry his nose and all of us the Parsons’s forehead. He love woodworking when he had time and made name puzzles, made us a playhouse with an actual shingled roof, climbers, and slides - some of which his grandchildren and great grandchildren still use to this day. Painted eggs the morning before Easter from the Easter bunny, stayed up late watching midnight mass and wrapping presents to put under the tree on Christmas Eve. Drove every year to Myrtle Beach. Let anyone who needed a place to stay into his home. Bought jewelry for his wife, always filled up the gas tank so my mom didn’t have to. He was the best dad, the best husband, the kind of person I based what I wanted in life partner on and I will forever miss him. We are so lucky we were able to care for him in his last months and surround him at home with love, children, and all the chaos of the Parsons house.

There is not just a small single memory to share because after 50 years as an extended family there are just too many!  From hanging drywall to chasing kids from making out in the playhouse we shared so much. Among my favorites, is the wings and pizza night we always shared on our first night in Myrtle Beach. How lucky we are to have had Gary, Uncle Gary, Grandpa Gary in our lives. So sorry for  the boys, and young men who did not get to see what the real meaning of a husband, a dad, a son, and a brother should be; they really missed out. He set the bar high but lived each day of his life. I miss him already and I pray God will let him rest and not have a list for him to do in heaven.

Uncle Gary was not my blood, but I was closer to him than most of my biological family. I didn’t get to see him often but my favorite vacations were the ones we took to Myrtle Beach when I got to see him, my aunt and cousins. Home Days cookouts at the Parsons could not be beat. He was the type of husband to his wife and father to his children that any man should aspire to be and any spouse should look for in a partner. He loved more than his fair share as a parent and foster parent. The people he loved are better because he touched their lives. The world is a little darker with him gone from it.
