Born of March 8, 1946 to Melvin and Merle Rehlender, Jim's life was a testament to the power of bringing levity to every situation and strength to the toughest of times. His marriage of over 59 years to Susan Ellen Hoon was a journey of unwavering partnership and mutual devotion. Together, they raised a family that reflected their shared values and unconditional love. Jim was a loving father to Jason (Lisa) Rehlender and Gregory Rehlender, and a grandfather to Dax Rehlender, Jordan Hawkins, Louden Rehlender, and Natasha Rehlender. Dear brother of Myrna Brueggeman (Earl) and the late Marian Arthur (Chester).
Jim worked for the Ohio Bell, AT&T, MOEN, and COMPUCOM. Jim was a conversationalist on and off the job, which extended into his passion of writing opinion columns for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and poems for family and friends. As the patriarch, Jim brought humor to every gathering. His Christmas trees, decorations, and gifts were always filled with creativity and an artistic touch that was something to witness and behold to believe. Jim's desire for his children's growth and happiness was built on patience and wisdoms that were always coined in an eloquent but humorous manner. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, the ability fix anything with the contents of his garage.
The undying loyalty Jim had for his family and friends was the essence of who he was. He dedicated his life to giving all he could to provide for his family, and a loving home for his wife and children; a home where everyone was welcome, and where memories were made to last a lifetime. Jim’s legacy of comedic relief and togetherness continues to live in real-time in those who were privileged to know him and those who encountered him in his many impromptu excursions to COSTCO, Dollar General, Harbor Freight, MARCS and ALDI.
Jim’s life was a celebration of a man who rose above and used his brains and brawn to build a life that touched so many people. As we remember this remarkable man, we take great comfort in the knowledge that his smile and laughter will continue to be felt through stories retold, and he will be loved and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Jim's memory will be honored as we embrace each other a little tighter and laugh a little louder, keeping his spirit alive in every cherished moment.
