

Beloved father of Pamela Wightman (Wayne, deceased), Michael (deceased), and John III (Kiki). Cherished grandfather of Michael (Kristina), Jason (Valerie Horneij), Jessica Wightman and Alexandra (Jake VanOenen). Proud great-grandfather of Emelia, Juliette, and Joshua.
John was the devoted son of Mary Rominske (Prucha) and John James, and the loving stepson of Arthur Rominske. He was the beloved husband of Joan James (Smiley) and Lynette James (Gallagher), both deceased and a loving brother of the late Mary Lou Reid.
A 1952 graduate of South High School, John went on to enjoy a 37-year career with Western Electric. He proudly served in the Air Force National Guard from 1956 to 1960.
After retirement, John became a “snowbird,” spending 12 wonderful winters in the Tucson, Arizona area before returning to the Cleveland area full time. An avid athlete, he played senior softball for two decades as a member of the Huff ‘n Puffers and the Oro Valley Arizona softball league..
John was the oldest cousin of many, and family always came first. He was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) and the Cleveland Browns, rarely missing a game.
He will be remembered for his warm heart, his love of baseball, and the special bond he shared with his beloved yorkie, Bonnie, with whom he enjoyed many long walks
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 7 PM in the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM at the A. RIPEPI AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY ROAD, MIDDLEBURG HEIGTHTS, OHIO 44130 (WEST of I-71)
