JOHN D. PEDUZZI, age 83. Beloved husband of Marion (nee Makkos) for 58 years; devoted father of Angela Mills (Paul), and Christopher (Jennifer); cherished grandfather of Chelsea, Hannah, Aiden, and Gavin; dear great-grandfather of Braydon; caring brother of Elizabeth Minick. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
John and his family lived in the small town of Jeannette, Pennsylvania. He was part of a traditional mixed Italian family that all lived closely to each other. As a young child he put the needs of his family first, contributing in any way he could to help their family unit run smooth. John graduated from Jeannette high school in 1957. With education being a priority to him, he went on to college at Penn State, ultimately graduating from Saint Vincent College in 1963 with his teaching degree.
John moved to Cleveland, Ohio after accepting a job at West Technical High School as a Mathematics and Physics teacher. There he would meet his beloved wife Marion. They grew their family with the adoption of their daughter Angela in 1969, and son Chris in 1972. During these years, John also received his masters degree from The University of Notre Dame.
Professionally, he taught and coached basketball at John Marshall, hosted a program at the Cleveland Planetarium through the Cleveland School of Science, and worked closely with Cleveland State’s W.E.B. DuBois summer program. After retirement in 1996, he continued to substitute teach, tutor children, and host teacher work shops. John had a belief that teaching was an art and it was his duty as a teacher to build a community in the classroom. Through this, he undoubtable made a positive impact on many students and colleagues.
The later part of his life John spent traveling with his wife. He was proud of the accomplishment of visiting every state in the United States (except North Dakota) and visiting Europe several times. He continued to educate himself through reading about history, other cultures, and war. John loved sports, and attended as many sporting events as he could. John’s family was always his first priority, spending as much time with them as possible. John’s kindness, positivity, passion for education, and humility are just some of the values he was able to pass on to his family. He will be greatly missed.
