Joseph Sadie, age 80 of North Royalton, Ohio passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025. Beloved husband of Catherine "Cathy" (nee Gardner). Loving father of Colleen Massanyi (Eric), Kim Pickford (Mike) and Elizabeth Armagno (Nick). Cherished “Papa” of Everett, Sadie and Maxwell Massanyi, Theo and Lily Pickford and Vinny and Nico Armagno. Dear brother of Joan Morehouse (Jim) and Peter Sadie (Cheryl).
He was affectionately known as “Papa Joe”, and was born on April 8, 1944, in Parma, Ohio.
Raised with his siblings Peter and Joanie, he cherished his childhood memories of playing pranks on anyone who crossed his path and leading the neighborhood kids with his cowboy boots and holster.
Joe embarked on a fulfilling career as a policeman with the Cleveland Police Department and patrolled the streets for over forty years. He lived by the motto “to protect and serve”.
His commitment to taking care of others was most evident through his philanthropic work. He was passionate about making life better for those less fortunate and bolstered a non-profit organization called “Cops and Kids”, a community outreach program where police officers interact with children in a positive way. Joe organized countless events aimed at building positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. If a family was in need or a child needed clothes or toys, Joe was there to help.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Joe found joy in his time with family. He often stated his favorite hobby was just being with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.
He loved taking vacations to Disneyworld, hosting parties featuring extravagant cakes, and cooking ribs on the grill during summertime.
Joe was a master of storytelling and could capture an audience with his tales of tomfoolery. Joe was the kind of man that you instantly liked. To know him was to love him.
Joe’s greatest source of pride and joy was his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He enjoyed every moment with his devoted wife of 42 years and spent his final years wrapped in the laughter of his 7 grandchildren.
Joe’s legacy of love will forever be etched in our hearts. In his own words (as written in one of many articles about Joe’s career),
"All good things must come to an end. I am going to miss it. I wish I could have stayed and done more."
He did it all. Thanks for everything, Joe.
