
Raymond Lowell Cary, 82, of Lebanon, passed away on June 3, 2022 at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born November 1, 1939 in Twin Valley, Minnesota, the son of Merton Lowell and Nellie (Westgard) Cary, and grew up on a farm in Ulen, Minnesota.
He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of North Dakota and a master’s degree from Stanford University. While serving in the United States Naval Construction Battalions in Port Hueneme, California, Ray met his wife, Wanda Henderson. They were married on November 25, 1966 and later lived in Nebraska and Missouri before settling in Middletown, Ohio.
Ray was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for many years, and after his retirement from AK Steel, he devoted numerous hours to volunteering at Atrium Medical Center. He touched countless lives through his work as a volunteer chaplain there, as well as through the “Prayer Parade” he helped organize to pray at various local institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Cary.
Ray is survived by son Michael (Polly) Cary, daughter Colette (Brent) Mayer, grandchildren Nathan, Alex, Ben, and Samuel Mayer; grandchildren by marriage Caitlyn (Nick) Setters, Nick Wilson, and Ben Wilson, and great-grandchildren by marriage Mason Perry and Scarlett Setters.
A Memorial Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 10 N Breiel Blvd, Middletown, OH 45044 on July 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
